10th January 2012 - Discopolis to Release New Single on KIDS
Greetings KIDS followers!
It's been a while, but we're delighted to announce our first release of 2012, in the shape of Edinburgh's Discopolis. We'll be releasing their new single, the mighty Zenithobia, as a digital EP, with the original, remixes from Glasgow's Miaoux Miaoux, the band's very own One Dollar Dave, and an almighty extended mix of the original, via all good digital providers, on Monday March 5th.
Zenithobia is an epic slab of pop-house, building with gently pulsing synths into a truly euphoric chorus, as waves of keyboards combine with anguished vocals and huge beats to take you away to another, higher, place. Evocative of the finest moments of Friendly Fires’ output, fused with the sonic majesty of M83 and perhaps even reminiscent of early Orbital, Zenithobia is nonetheless very much the sound of Discopolis and their unique brand of blissed-out melodic house. The band, comprising Fergus Cook, Laurie Corlett-Donald and Dave Lloyd, hail from Edinburgh, and are precociously young – Corlett-Donald is 20, while Cook and Lloyd are just 19, and all are friends from school. Support has come from no less than eleven Radio 1 DJs, including Fearne Cotton, Greg James, Scott Mills and Pete Tong, who commissioned them to remix his own signing, Paper Crows. The press have been no less responsive, with praise from the NME and The Sun, who have both tipped them to be stars of 2012. Support from blogs has been no less forthcoming, with many declarations of love, amongst them The Skinny, This is Fake DIY and Deadly People.
You can listen to Zenithobia at the band's soundcloud page here: www.soundcloud.com/discopolismusic
In addition, the band have been working hard crafting their live sound; they have already supported the likes of Metronomy, Friendly Fires, Wild Beasts and Fenech-Soler and won over the crowds with their clubby, yet live and organic show.
Catch them live at the following gigs:
Febuary
2nd – Portsmouth, The Registry
Febuary 6th – Liverpool, MOJO
February 10th – Edinburgh, The Third Door
Febuary 11th – Aberdeen, The Lemon Tree
w/b March 5th – London, Single Launch Party, TBC
w/b March 5th – Edinburgh, Single Launch Party, TBC
(further dates to be added – please check www.thisisdiscopolis.com)

29th September 2010 - Be My Animal - New single from The Good Natured announced......
KIDS is proud to announce that we will be releasing the next single, 'Be My Animal' by the incredibly talented The Good Natured on limited 7" single and digital download on 1st November.
The Good Natured's, aka Sarah McIntosh, dark new single bristles with raw teenage sexuality. This 19-year-old is certainly growing up with these truthful and brave songs about the rougher parts of intimacy. This electronic long song exhibits her already trademark hypnotic beat combined with alluringly assured vocals.
The B-side, Prisoner, is the equal of the A-side and explores emotional and physical power relations between two people.
Videos have been shot for both tracks, and the first, for Prisoner, is already available to watch on youtube. 'Be My Animal' has already had its first Radio 1 play Huw Stephens, and The Good Natured looks set to break into the wider public consciousness very soon. The single is available to preorder now so get in quick......
24th August 2010 - KIDS Records to Release Debut single by Clement Marfo & The Frontline
KIDS is proud to announce that we will be releasing the debut single, 'Champion' by the incredible 7-piece act from Kingston, South London, Clement Marfo & The Frontline, on limited 7" single and digital download on 11th October.
'Champion' is a knock-out punch of a pop song, marrying influences ranging from Jay-Z to Daft Punk, by way of N.E.R.D and Dizzee Rascal. From the instantly-singalong chorus to Clement's relentless rap, it is a supremely assured debut single from a genuinely impressive new UK talent. And it sounds like the 'Rocky' theme tune that never was...
The charismatic Clement, born to Ghanaian parents and raised in Kingston, South London, has become something of a phenomenon in the underground British music scene. Backed by his six-piece band 'The Frontline', 'Champion' is just a taster of Marfo's ability to fuse hip-hop, rock and pop in a cut-and-paste yet brilliantly idiosyncratic fashion. He has the tunes and the attitude to become the champion he sings of.
Champion will be backed on the 7" by 'Shock & Awe' and on a the digital release with 'Shock & Awe' and a remix by dubstep sensation and Rinse FM DJ, Smasher.
The single is available to preorder now from our shop, to the left of this blog and also from the amazing Banquet Records......

14th February 2010 - Kyte - Dead Waves
Leicestershire four-piece Kyte will release their debut full-length album, Dead Waves, on 19 April through KIDS Records. Dead Waves follows Kyte's self-titled mini-album and highly acclaimed EP, Two Stars, Two Sparks (released December 2008).
The album will be preceded by the release of a single, ihnfsa, on 19 April. NME went on to predict that "Kyte will steal your heart", and they've returned to do just that. On Dead Waves, Kyte's ever-atmospheric, dreamy soundscapes come coupled with big pop sensibilities. First single 'ihnfsa' is symphonic, lush and melancholic; an exemplum of the band's newfound focus. 'Smoke Saves Lives', meanwhile, is an enormous-sounding explosion of big choruses, driven by a simple yet hypnotic piano line.
Kyte's debut works precisely because of this contrast with the album's more far-reaching musical efforts: the epic 'Each Life Critical', for instance, sounds like Sigur Rós soundtracking Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Such huge sounds need the lyrical content to match, on which Nick Moon duly delivers ("painful nerves are turning, sleepless, searching, back in time, hallucinate the love").
Though Dead Waves is their first proper long-player, Kyte have made impressively large strides for a new act. They built up a strong following in both the indie and dance press, thanks in part to supporting slots with the likes of The Whip, School of Seven Bells, iLiKETRAiNS and Iceland's Ólafur Arnalds. In the US, their track 'Boundaries' was used on a nationally-aired advert for HBO's The Sopranos.
The band can also boast of quite remarkable success in Japan, following the release of their Japan-only album Science For The Living. This saw them chart at number 5, and debut one place higher than U2. 2010 will see this particular Kyte fly even higher.
"Kyte will steal your heart soon as look as you" - NME
"They're the stuff of dream-pop dreams, blessed with a compellingly insular intensity…they're looking thoroughly poised to soar." - The Fly
"Kyte positively gleam" Rock Sound
