30th May
Greetings KIDS people,
Thanks to everyone who's bought the Steers single - there are copies still available from us, and purchase links are up on our homepage: www.kidsthelabel.co.uk
We are delighted to announce that our next single will be very appropriate to us at KIDS as they are, er, kids....although this is irrelevant as they are quite simply one of the best bands we've seen in years, full stop. They are called Lo-Fi Culture Scene and they are amazing. Their debut single, 'Abstract' is released on June 30th on limited 7" and digital download.
There is an awesome video up on youtube...checkit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PufTq1B5BA and the track has already been played on Rob da Bank (Radio 1), and Jon Hillcock (XFM). In addition, the band are currently being featured on the 6Music Breakfast show with Shaun Keaveney. Get involved here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/shaun_keaveny/bandaid.shtml
Preorder here: www.kidsthelabel.co.uk/buy.htm and read more about the band below.....
Some members of the band - all of whom are aged 13 and 14 - have known each other since they were two years old, but didn't form Lo-Fi Culture Scene until 18 months ago. Tom MacColl (drums) had previously been jamming with his big brother's band Bombay Bicycle Club until he was kicked out for "not being cool enough", and Lo-Fi's first gig was playing covers at a street party on the road on which three of the band live.
In their short time together, Lo-Fi have already accomplished an incredible amount. They recently played the Astoria supporting Les Savy Fav and the Islington Academy with Good Shoes, as well as other supports with Bloc Party, Foals and Mumm-Ra - not forgetting a memorable house party with Lethal Bizzle.
They have already attracted the attention of many within the music industry, including John Fortis (Razorlight, The Pipettes, Assembly Now) who produced 'Abstract'
Following the release of 'Abstract', the band will play festival slots at the Underage Festival and Z008 Festival (they had to turn down Camden Crawl as they were too young to get into the venues). Lo-Fi are proving themselves to be as good, if not better, than their older compatriots, and are poised to storm the indie scene with an abundance of catchy riffs, an impeccably tight rhythm section, and the type of addictive choruses that most bands would kill to write.
''Un-real,'' people were whispering, by the time they're 16, they'll be grazing on indie bones in the way that the young lion feeds on the ageing head of the pride - NME

Greetings Kids followers, Firstly thanks to everyone that's bought the amazing self-titled Kyte minialbum so far. We picked up radio support from Huw Stephens (radio 1), John Kennedy (XFM) and Steve Lamacq (6Music), and also got some great reviews, including a lovely 8/10 in NME. If you haven't already bought it, we urge you to get involved.....either from our website: http://www.kidsthelabel.co.uk/buy.htm or from all good indie stores and HMV and Zavvi online (the latter 2 shops are both reordering so it will be back in stock soon......).
--------------------------------------
Secondly, we'd like to formally announce our next release, from the superb Blah Blah Blah, who, after doing around 300 gigs (including a wake and a 60th birthday party) in the last 12 months, finally release their debut single, 'Death to the Indie Disco'. It's available on limited 7" with completely handmade, spraypainted artwork. Seriously, it's an absolute work of art. We've already had a ton of preorders on this record (in fact we have just 23 left from our site) so get in quick before they go! The record is released on April 4th so if you preorder it will come through the letterbox on that day....... Check out the following nice review we've already had in: http://www.thisisfakediy.co.uk/articles/8850/Blah-Blah-Blah---Death-To-The-Indie-Disco.html Check out their myspace for a list of forthcoming live dates: http://www.myspace.com/blahblahblahandfriends
---------------------------------------
Further in the future, we will also be releasing the second single by The Steers. Entitled 'Julia', the track is a bona fide indie disco classic. We haven't heard a track as good as this since The Wombats unleashed Backfire at the Disco....be very afraid ;-) This will be released on May 5th and preorder details and more info will be sent out soon....... As ever check our website and myspace for tunes and more info: www.kidsthelabel.co.uk www.myspace.com/kidsrecords
28th January
Greeting KIDS people, Happy new year to you all, and what better way to start 2008 than with an early contender for album of the year. We're delighted to announce details of only our second longplayer - the debut minialbum by Kyte. The 7 track record is available on numbered, wax sealed CD and download on February 18th and is preceded by the digital download single 'Boundaries' on February 11th, which is bundled with the stunning KGB remix of album track 'Sunlight'.
With an average age of only 20, Kyte have crafted a collection of epic pop songs with a mastery beyond their years. Recalling the glacial soundscapes of Sigur Rós, the bombast of Mew and the melodic sensibility of Death Cab For Cutie, Kyte's songs will resonate with all fans of beautiful and ambitious pop music.
Despite having only one previous release to their name - a 7" release of 'Planet' on Sonic Cathedral - Kyte have already captured many hearts. Maps' remix of b-side 'Secular Ventures' gained widespread plaudits in the indie and dance press alike, and in the US their track 'Boundaries' was used on a nationally aired advert for The Sopranos on HBO. The electronic tinge to their music (recalling Four Tet or Boards of Canada) has led to supports with The Whip and Maps, as well as winning the acclaim of Ulrich Schnauss.
'Kyte' weighs in at 40 minutes long yet is available for the super-low price of just £6 for the CD and £5 digitally......... It's available to preorder now from here: www.kidsthelabel.co.uk/buy.htm and all website preorder people will get the lower numbered copies......
Tracklisting and more info is available on our website: www.kidsthelabel.co.uk

Greetings KIDS people,
Well you haven't heard from us for a while but, rest assured, we have been very busy.
We're delighted to announce news of our next release, which is our first digital single, in the form of Neil McSweeney's second release, 'A Rope to Hang', which is bundled with another new track 'Chinese Cargo'. It's available from all DSPs on December 10th.
McSweeney's
debut single 'Postcards', struck a nerve with all who came across it. Radio
support from Zane Lowe (Radio 1), Huw Stephens (Radio 1), Jonathan Ross (Radio
2) and Mark Radcliffe (BBC 6Music) was bolstered further by a slot on the XFM
Playlist.
'A Rope To Hang' is music at its most sparse, yet most affecting. Neil's huge
voice - which has drawn favourable comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley
or a male Tracy Chapman - is supported solely by the most delicate of acoustic
backing, showcasing its intensity and raw power to the full. The track brings
to mind Jose Gonzales' 'Heartbeats' and Scott Matthews' 'Elusive' in both its
haunting performance and sheer songwriting quality. A clip of the track is up
on our MySpace page now.....www.myspace.com/kidsrecords
In addition, we are also shamlessly rereleasing the KIDS Christmas album that we put out last December. For a mere £4.99, you can get your hands on the perfect indie Xmas soundtrack - featuring tracks by Findlay Brown, The Wombats, Oppenheimer, It Hugs Back, Popular Workshop and Mighty Six Ninety. This will be in indie stores December 10th and we have a few copies left in our shop on this website too.
Finally, we are delighted to announce that we will be releasing the debut album from Leicester dream-pop-soundscape-geniuses Kyte in February 2008. More details will follow at a later date but we can tell you that, even though it hasn't started yet, it is already a contender for the best album of next year......
Big love,
team KIDS

P.S. If you haven't bought KIDS014 - Band of Horses - The Funeral, or KIDS017 The Steers - Rewind, Repeat - get in quick, we're sold out in stores and have the last few left at KIDS towers.....

Greetings KIDS people,
-If you didn't know already, the brand new single, 'Graphs, Maps & Trees' from ASSEMBLY NOW was released on Monday - it's still available from our shop ( www.kidsthelabel.co.uk/buy.htm) and now from all good indie record shops (Rough Trade, Piccadilly etc etc) although it is veritably flying out of the shops as I type. The indie summer anthem of the year; we've had great support from MTV2, Colin Murray (Radio 1), XFM and the boys have just finished a fantastic UK tour. Thanks to everyone who preordered and have bought it since
Go get your copy and remember that their debut single 'It's Magnetic' is available from us for a bargain £1.99 as well.......
-We're also pleased to announce our next single - KIDS017 brings to you yet another brand new band in the form of the Cardiff-based group THE STEERS. 'Rewind Repeat' is their debut single and it had its first radio spin on XFM's Music Response show last night.
It's another instant indie disco classic from KIDS, reminiscent of early Blur and Supergrass, and even KIDS alumni The Wombats.
It's released September 10th on limited edition (500 copies only) 7" and digitally, and is up to preorder from our site now www.kidsthelabel.co.uk/buy.htm
You can hear it on our myspace too: www.myspace.com/kidsrecords The band have just finished support tours with The Hold Steady and Underground Heroes and have a series of forthcoming dates up on their myspace too - www.myspace.com/thesteers - I urge you to go see them live!
Peace and loving teamKIDS xxx
12th July
Our next release will be from London's indie Kings ASSEMBLY NOW, who return to KIDS (we put out their debut single It's Magnetic) with their best track to date. Graphs, Maps and Trees is an instant indie classic, backed with the hugely epic 'Calculate' which, like all KIDS singles, is almost as good as the main track.....
Catch them on their current tour - dates listed at the end of this email.......
This limited, numbered 7" is available to preorder now from the KIDS website shop, and you can listen to it on our myspace (www.myspace.com/kidsrecords), and watch the awesome video on YouTube. The artwork is also something very special indeed.
Remember Neil McSweeney's debut single 'Postcards' is out now from our shop and all good indie shops. Zane Lowe (Radio 1) played it as his sunsetter record on the week of release and Stuart Maconie and Mark Radcliffe has since given it a spin.......
Finally, we recently found 10 copies of the remix 12" of Paul Hartnoll's track with Robert Smith, 'Please' (KIDS013RMX) down the back of the sofa. This sold out instantly upon release back in May and features remixes from Press darlings THE WHIP, French maestros BOSS BOSS and a remix from the man himself PAUL HARTNOLL. KIDS people, The debut single from Band of Horses, 'The Funeral' is OUT NOW available from all good indie stores, all good online stores and from our website: www.kidsthelabel.co.uk/buy.htm
The 7" is strictly limited to 750 copies, hand numbered, and contains a brand new B-side 'The End's Not Near'. Go get it! We at KIDS towers were lucky enough to see the band last night when they sold out the Scala in London, so any of you in Glasgow or Manchester - get down to their remaining shows on their UK tour - they are incredible live.
Next up we're pleased to announce our 15th single on KIDS - as we welcome our very first singer-songwriter, NEIL MCSWEENEY, from Sheffield.
'Postcards' showcases McSweeney's extraordinarily powerful voice, a cross between Lou Reed and Tracy Chapman, over a maudlin yet uplifting backdrop with an emotional depth that recalls the quiet menace of The Bad Seeds. The track has had early plays from Zane Lowe and Dermot O'Leary, and McSweeney has performed on Steve Lamacq's BBC Radio 1 show. McSweeney started writing his Americana-tinged, folksy solo material while teaching English in Italy, following the break-up of his first band, Faded. Upon returning to his native Sheffield, he continued to write songs inspired by the likes of Low and Papa M, and was invited to record some tracks by a local studio. McSweeney became a fixture on the local live circuit, with his intense, brooding live performances leading to him being (somewhat unfairly he feels) voted 'Sheffielder Most Likely To kill Himself' on one internet forum, and described as 'the most miserable man alive' on another.
Postcards is released on June 18th on incredibly limited (500 copies) 7" and is available to preorder from our website now: www.kidsthelabel.co.uk/buy.htm
Neil recently received a glowing live review in The Guardian, no less - click here to have a read: http://www.kidsthelabel.co.uk/NeilMcSweeneyGuardian.jpg
Neil will also be touring to support the release and we'll announce live dates soon.....
Thanks for all your support!

-We're also gonna be putting on our very first club night, in association with True Grit - it'll be on Friday June 30th and full details will be announced soon.....
-Lastly, we've finally got some clippings from when we made a brief splash in the National Papers, due to our decision to become the very first UK label to offer free, unprotected mp3s of the tracks on our vinyl releases to everyone who buys the vinyl....
